Opening of “RashtrapatiNilayam” For General Public by the Hon’ble President of India
The RashtrapatiNilayam is a 162-year-old heritage property and the only Presidential retreat in Southern India. This retreat is visited by the President of India every year during winter.
On the auspicious occasion of Ugadi, the Telugu New year, the Hon’ble President will virtually inaugurated the opening of RashtrapatiNilayam, Bolarum, Secunderabad for the general public. Hon’ble Governor of Telangana, Ministers fyom Center and Stategraced the occasion at RashtrapatiNilayam.
Key attractions for visitors at Nilayam:
Nilayam heritage building- Visitors to Nilayam can now enjoy the gardens and can explore the heritage building for the first time. Previously, only the gardens were open for 15 days a year. But now, the garden will be open all year long along with the main building. A tour of the historic structure provide guests with a peek of the President of India’s home during his/her southern trip. Here one can see the Presidential wings dining area and the central block of the building.
Knowledge gallery – The former stables, which have been renovated intoa knowledge gallery, is now open to the public. The visitors may learn about the history of RashtrapatiBhavan and RashtrapatiNilayam here. They can also see the domestic and diplomatic gifts that the presidents have received. In this gallery, visitors can learn about the various components of the Indian Constitution and get a glimpse of the roles and responsibilities of the President of India. In the art gallery’s outdoor courtyard, visitors can take selfies with the Buggy and The President’s Limousine, which are on display.
Underground Kitchen tunnel – Guests can stroll through an underground tunnel which connects the Nilayam kitchen to the dining hall. It is currently painted with magnificent folk art of Cheriyal and offers a peek at the region’s cultural traditions.
Premises- The visitors can explore the Jai Hind Ramp and Flag post point. Along with it the nature trail is an additional feature that visitors can enjoy. This walk and nature classrooms will introduce visitors to the diverse flora of the estate. Also, visitors can obtain information about fruits, trees, and flowers by scanning QR codes.
Gardens- Various sections of the garden with specialized themes such as Rock Garden, Herbal Garden, Butterfly and Nakshatra Garden can be enjoyed by the visitors.
The Hon’ble President had laid the foundation stone for the restoration and conservation of the Jai Hind Ramp.
Jai Hind Ramp- The historic Step well is connected with a beautified ramp called Jai Hind. Historically, these step wells have fulfilled most of RashtrapatiNilayam’s water needs for gardening, cooking, domestic and others through several water channels and aqueducts. Due to their historical and practical significance, the office of the President of India is looking to restore these step wells. The restoration and beautification of these step wells will not only help in conserving water and preserving historical integrity but also make these step wells attraction points for citizens visiting the RashtrapatiNilayam campus.
Also, the Hon’ble President laid the foundation stone of the replica of the Historic Flag Post.
Historic Flag Post Site- The northwest corner of the lawn had a 120-foot-tall weather wane cum flag post. It was mounted on a circular platform surrounded by elongated granite stones and covered with iron pulleys to hold the weight of the structure. Due to aging it was in delicate condition and for safety measures it was dismantled and now it’s proposed to reconstruct the flag post replica with technical support of CBRI. Booking information-
The RashtrapatiNilayamis open to the public from 22nd March 2023. For easy access and seamless visit, visitors can book online tickets from 14th March 2023 onwards through the official website of RashtrapatiBhavan https://rashtrapathibhavan.gov.inAlso booking can be done on the spot by scanning QR code. Registration charges will be Rs 50/- per person for Indian Nationals and Rs 250/- per person for foreign nationals. The RashtrapatiNilayam will open on all days except Mondays and other Government holidays from 10:00 am to 05:00 pm, with the last entry at 04:00 pm.
For government school children of below 12th class, free entry is provided till June 2023.

For the convenience of tourists, Nilayam provides free parking, a cloakroom, wheelchair access, a café, souvenir store, restrooms, RO water dispensers across campus, first aid set up and free guided tours.
